Labcon ProtectR® Transport Centrifuge Tubes Protect Samples Against Acidification
Labcon ProtectR® centrifuge tubes are designed for the safe transport and storage of biological samples where maintaining the original pH value is critical. During shipment or storage on dry ice, conventional centrifuge tubes may allow CO₂ to penetrate the container, potentially causing sample acidification of up to 2.5 pH units.
Such pH changes can affect sample integrity, reproducibility, and biological activity. Proteins, cell cultures, and other sensitive biological molecules are particularly vulnerable to even short-term exposure to CO₂ contamination.
Labcon ProtectR® transport centrifuge tubes are engineered to provide a complete seal and are certified to prevent CO₂-induced acidification during both transportation and dry ice storage. This helps improve sample security and ensures more reliable analytical results.
Designed for Safe Sample Handling
The centrifuge tubes feature a conical bottom and can withstand centrifugation forces of up to 12,500 × G (RCF). Clear black graduations and a reverse-reading scale allow for easy and accurate volume measurement.
For efficient sample identification, the tubes include a large white writing area with a patented anti-smudge surface. The green caps feature a flat top that provides additional space for clear labeling.
The tubes are manufactured from polystyrene based on high-quality non-cytotoxic medical-grade resin, while the caps are produced from polyethylene. An integrated rubber membrane ensures a 100% leak-proof seal.
IATA 95 kPa Certified for Air Transport
Air carriers increasingly require compliance with IATA regulations for the transportation of biological samples. Labcon ProtectR® transport centrifuge tubes are certified according to the IATA 95 kPa standard, demonstrating their ability to withstand significant pressure differentials without leakage.
This certification requires the container to withstand an internal pressure of at least 95 kPa (0.95 bar or 13.8 psi) without leaking. As a result, these tubes are particularly well suited for the safe air transport of biological samples.
Developed and Tested for Laboratory Use
Labcon ProtectR® centrifuge tubes are developed in Labcon’s own laboratory and subsequently tested in professional external laboratories. Testing confirms that the tubes are suitable for most common centrifugation applications.
All sterile products are packaged in medical-grade packaging and sterilized using the validated ISO 11137 irradiation method. The sterilization process achieves a Sterility Assurance Level (SAL) of 10⁻⁶, making the products particularly suitable for research and medical laboratory environments.
Sustainable Manufacturing with a Focus on the Environment
Labcon manufactures its centrifuge tubes with a strong commitment to reducing environmental impact. Production takes place at the company’s own facilities in California, where 93% of energy consumption comes from renewable energy sources.
Sustainable materials, including bioplastics and recyclable plastics, are used throughout the manufacturing process, and packaging is designed to minimize plastic consumption. Heavy-metal-free inks are used for all printed packaging materials.
Although plastic products remain essential in modern laboratories, studies show that a significant portion of their environmental impact originates from the manufacturing process itself. By choosing Labcon Earth Friendly products, laboratories can significantly reduce their overall environmental footprint.
FDA-Approved Materials for Food Contact
Labcon is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and operates under comprehensive quality control systems. Products are manufactured under carefully monitored conditions and tested for precision, clarity, centrifugation performance, torsional strength, and freedom from contamination.
The resin used complies with FDA CFR 21 GMP requirements, meaning the products are approved for food-contact applications.
