NEST syringe filters with a nylon membrane provide a versatile solution for general laboratory filtration and sample preparation of smaller sample volumes. Nylon is a naturally hydrophilic and robust membrane with broad chemical compatibility, making these filters suitable for both aqueous solutions and a range of solvents.
The syringe filters can be used across several laboratory fields, including life science, the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, environmental applications, food and beverage, and agricultural laboratories. They are well suited for routine sample filtration when particles need to be removed before further analysis or processing.
The naturally hydrophilic properties of nylon mean that no pre-wetting is required when filtering aqueous samples. Combined with its mechanical strength and broad chemical compatibility, this makes nylon a versatile membrane for many common laboratory filtration tasks.
The syringe filter housing is made from medical-grade polypropylene (PP) using a one-piece, injection-moulded construction. Its robust design withstands high pressure and helps prevent leakage during filtration.

NEST syringe filters with nylon membrane feature a pore size of 0.45 µm and are available in three diameters: 13 mm, 25 mm and 30 mm.
The appropriate diameter depends, among other factors, on the sample volume and required filtration capacity. A larger filter diameter provides a greater membrane area and is therefore suitable when filtering larger sample volumes.
The syringe filters are sterile, individually packaged and intended for single use.
The appropriate membrane depends on the sample type and intended application. Below, you can compare the three membrane types available in the NEST range.
| Membrane | Properties | Typical applications |
|---|---|---|
| PES | Hydrophilic membrane with minimal protein binding and efficient flow | Filtration of biological and aqueous solutions, as well as samples containing proteins, buffers or reagents |
| PVDF | Low protein binding and high resistance to chemical exposure | Protein-containing samples and biological solutions |
| Nylon | Hydrophilic and durable membrane with broad chemical compatibility | General sample filtration, as well as aqueous solutions and certain solvents |
| Material | Polypropylene |
