NEST Syringe Filter with PVDF Membrane

NEST syringe filters with a PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) membrane are designed for the filtration of small sample volumes and are particularly suitable when low protein binding combined with good chemical resistance is required. These properties make the PVDF membrane a suitable choice for biological samples and protein-containing solutions, among other applications.

The syringe filters can be used in laboratories within life science, biotechnology, the pharmaceutical industry, environmental testing, food and beverage, and agricultural applications. They are suitable for a variety of filtration and sample preparation tasks, including protein solutions, reagents, and other laboratory samples.

Low Protein Binding and Good Chemical Resistance

The PVDF membrane has low protein binding, helping to limit the adsorption of proteins onto the membrane during filtration. At the same time, the material offers good chemical resistance, making the membrane suitable for a range of laboratory applications.

The filter housing is made of medical-grade polypropylene (PP) in a one-piece, injection-moulded construction. This provides a robust filter housing that can withstand high pressure and is designed to minimise the risk of leakage during use.

Typical Applications

  • Filtration of small sample volumes
  • Filtration of protein-containing samples
  • Biological solutions
  • Sample preparation in life science and biotechnology
  • Filtration of reagents and other laboratory samples

Diameter and Pore Size

The NEST syringe filter with PVDF membrane is available with a diameter of 30 mm and a pore size of 0.22 µm.

The 0.22 µm membrane is designed for fine filtration applications where very small particles and microorganisms need to be retained.

The syringe filters are supplied sterile and individually packaged and are intended for single use.

Which Membrane Should I Choose?

The optimal membrane type depends on both the composition of the sample and the specific filtration application. Below, you can compare the properties and typical applications of the three membrane types available in the NEST range.

Membrane Properties Typical applications
PES Hydrophilic membrane with minimal protein binding and efficient flow Filtration of biological and aqueous solutions, as well as samples containing proteins, buffers or reagents
PVDF Low protein binding and high resistance to chemical exposure Protein-containing samples and biological solutions
Nylon Hydrophilic and durable membrane with broad chemical compatibility General sample filtration, as well as aqueous solutions and certain solvents
Material Polypropylene
