Both the tubes and the corresponding racks follow the SBS format and comply with international standards. This makes the system suitable for manual sample handling as well as automated laboratory processes.
The tubes are designed for short- and long-term storage at temperatures ranging from -196 °C to 121 °C. They are manufactured from medical-grade virgin polypropylene and are free from DNase, RNase, and pyrogens. The tube with screw cap has a working volume of 0.3 ml.
Every tube features a laser-engraved 2D Data Matrix barcode in the black base. The durable code is designed to withstand demanding laboratory environments and repeated handling.
The barcode can still be read even if up to 30% of the code has been damaged. AltemisLab tubes therefore provide a high level of identification security, as the 2D codes are designed to prevent incorrect readings and incorrect number reporting.
Several barcodes can be decoded simultaneously, helping to save time and streamline sample-processing workflows. Every individual barcode is checked during quality control to confirm reliable readability.
The sample tubes are produced using a highly specialized and automated dual-injection process. This manufacturing method creates a strong molecular bond between the transparent tube and the black base containing the 2D code.

The screw caps are manufactured as a single-piece component for tubes with internal threads. This design allows the caps to expand uniformly during freezing.
The thread is engineered to prevent the cap from being screwed on at an angle. Uniform expansion and correct cap alignment ensure a tight seal and eliminate the risk of leakage.
The screw caps are manufactured through dual injection of thermoplastic elastomer, TPE, and medical-grade polypropylene.

AlteClean™ tubes are manufactured in a cleanroom environment and certified free from non-viable biological substances. They are free from DNA, RNA, DNase, RNase, and endotoxins.
Sterile tubes are defined as being free from living organisms. Sterilization and autoclaving eliminate viable organisms, although non-viable contaminants may still be present. AlteClean™ tubes therefore provide a specified cleanliness level for applications where protection from enzymes and non-viable contamination is important.
The 2D-coded SBS racks measure 8 × 12 cm and hold 96 tubes. They are compatible with automated equipment designed to process 8, 12, or 96 tubes at a time.
The robust rack base is made from polypropylene, while the lid is made from polycarbonate. All racks comply with international SBS/ANSI standards, with dimensions and tolerances precisely verified using advanced video measurement equipment.

The racks include an anti-rotation feature that holds the tubes securely and prevents them from spinning. This makes it easier to apply or remove screw caps manually or with automated equipment.
The rack lid can be locked in place to provide increased security during sample storage and shipping. The lid is hinged but can also be removed completely.
The hinged design helps reduce the risk of sample contamination, while the fully removable lid provides unrestricted access during manual handling or automated processing.
